BLOG TOUR: Booked for Summer - Kathryn Freeman

A love story she didn't see coming…

When book lover Jade Taylor applies to manage the Little Bay Book Shack on Nantucket Island over the summer, the last thing she needs is the distraction of billionaire resort owner, Liam Haven.

But things take an unexpected turn when Liam becomes Jade’s boss – a man who only reads contracts for pleasure…

In a bid to save the bookshop from being absorbed into the Haven resort, Jade is determined to teach Liam that there’s more to life than acquiring real estate. And if she can make him realise happily ever afters do exist, might she be able to save the island’s bookshop in the process?

What did I think?

Booked for Summer is Kathryn Freeman's latest romcom and it is filled with romance and books.  A book with books in it is always going to pique my interest and I enjoyed my virtual trip to Nantucket Island.

I loved the main characters of Jade and Liam, although not at first I have to say.  Jade's enthusiasm for running the bookshop is infectious so it's no wonder that she quickly makes friends as soon as she sets foot in Nantucket.  After a misunderstanding at the ferry crossing, Jade meets Liam and their attraction to each other is plain to see.  Of course, they both have their own hangups and neither of them are looking for anything long term...

The wonderfully drawn colourful characters pull this story along perfectly as well as the plot to close the bookshop.  What???  Close the bookshop?  I thought Kathryn Freeman wrote romcoms not horror stories!  I just loved how the whole community came together to fight for a common cause, which also happened to be them all ganging up on Liam as he owns the resort.  I really felt for him as there's a good reason why he wants make his resort the most exclusive on the island but he is a little blinkered because of it.

Flirty, charming and fun, Booked for Summer is an entertaining and enjoyable book that transports the reader across the Atlantic to the picturesque island of Nantucket.  It's a fabulous summer read.

I received a digital ARC to read and review for the blog tour and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

BLOG TOUR: Thank You, Next - Kathryn Freeman

I'm delighted to be taking part in the Rachel's Random Resources blog tour for Thank You, Next by Kathryn Freeman.  Scroll down to find out more about the book, read my review and win a paperback copy in the fabulous giveaway.

In this game of hearts, the stakes have never been higher…

Molly Harris is used to being left. Parents, boyfriends – she’s the queen of rejection. Her latest boyfriend, gym-fanatic Duncan, dumps her to go on reality dating show The One which sets up hot singletons to date for four weeks before meeting at the altar to say, ‘I do’.

But Duncan was the one who picked Molly up and put her back together the last time her heart got broken, so, determined not to let ‘The One’ get away, she follows Duncan onto the show. If she can prove that they’re meant to be, she might just get the happily ever after of her dreams…

But on the first day of filming, another reminder of her painful history walks into Happily Ever After Towers: Ben Knight, her it’s-not-you-it’s-me heartbreaker. The one she loved before Duncan.

In four weeks’ time, who will she meet at the altar? Duncan, the first person who ever made her feel loved, or Ben, the first person who made her feel?

What did I think?

If you follow my blog, you will know that I love Kathryn Freeman books and her latest novel, Thank You, Next is fun, flirty and a little bit racy.  It certainly had me blushing at times!

Molly loves watching reality dating show The One with her boyfriend Duncan and the romance on TV has Duncan hinting at marriage and children.  So, Molly is shocked when Duncan decides to join the show 'to gain more followers' or so he says.  Well, two can play at that game and Molly joins the show too.  Molly is sure that she will be matched with Duncan anyway and she starts dreaming of her wedding...until she is matched with her ex Ben.

Oooh I loved Ben even though he tries to keep Molly at arms length the attraction virtually sizzles off the page.  Ben doesn't have any desire to get married though and that's something that Molly really wants, due to being abandoned in her past by her parents and Ben himself.  Is Duncan 'the one' for Molly or should she give Ben another shot?

This is a really fun read and I really enjoyed following the couples on the dating show.  I was worried that Molly would get her heart broken again, either by Ben or Duncan, as Ben has a past he has yet to reveal and Duncan loves himself so much that he has no love left to give anybody else.  Who will be standing at the altar and what will happen next?  I couldn't read fast enough to find out!

Hugely entertaining, pulse-racing and very enjoyable, Thank You, Next is classic Kathryn Freeman and I absolutely loved it.

BLOG TOUR: Was It Good For You? - Kathryn Freeman

If you’re not a ten on Sophie’s spreadsheet, you’re never getting her between the bedsheets…

No aspect of Sophie’s life goes unrecorded in her Excel spreadsheets, so when she accidentally sends it to her entire contact list instead of just her best friend, Sophie has a lot of uncomfortable explaining to do.

First on the list? Dr Michael Adams. After a disastrous first date, Michael scored a ‘3’ on Sophie’s ‘love life’ tab, but when she shows up to apologise for sharing his result with the world, he issues an unexpected challenge: ten dates to prove that love can’t be calculated by an equation or contained by boxes on a spreadsheet.

Sophie isn’t someone who’s used to thinking outside the digital box, but there’s something about Michael that makes her want to take a chance…

What did I think?

Reading Kathryn Freeman books always put a smile on my face and Was It Good For You? is no exception.  It's a sweet, funny and heartwarming romcom that has you rooting for the underdog, who in this case is a man who is perfect for Sophie if only she would look at him instead of at her spreadsheet.

I love spreadsheets!  Possibly not as much as Sophie though.  Sophie keeps track of her whole life on Excel and even scores her dates so she doesn't waste any time on the wrong man.  It seems very clinical and emotionless to score a person based on a first date, although I can see the benefit of it as time is so precious.

Sophie thought her spreadsheet could never be wrong until she met Michael, who accidentally finds out his score and wants to show Sophie that there are more things to consider than the parameters she had scored him against.  Although first impressions do count for a lot, it's actually quite sobering to see what happens when you scratch beneath the surface and find out more about a person.

It's so sweet watching Sophie and Michael's relationship grow and I raced through the chapters as I couldn't wait to see what their next date would be and what would happen after the ten dates.  I loved the characters (both human and canine) and I loved the storyline - I loved everything about this fabulous romcom.

Fun, heartwarming and sweet, Was It Good For You? is a delightful novel.  I'm always in my happy place when there's a Kathryn Freeman book on my kindle and I loved this one.

BLOG TOUR: Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner - Kathryn Freeman

Not an expert, not even close, not in any of this. But nobody will try harder than me to make you happy.

Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following.

Now, as Harry and Sally bring major romcom moments to new life – including recreating that classic diner scene – their faking it turns to making…out and suddenly they’re living a real life romcom of their own! But like all the greatest love stories, the road to happily ever after is paved with unexpected challenges for this hero and heroine…

What did I think?

I always get excited when a new Kathryn Freeman book drops on my kindle as I've been a huge fan of hers since 2016.  With the recent furore over The Sunday Times bestseller list omitting the romance category, the title of Kathryn Freeman's latest novel couldn't be more relevant: Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner...not even The Sunday Times!

This is the story of when Harry met Sally and yes, that famous movie scene does get mentioned in the book.  The Sally in this case being Harry's landlady who he meets when his relationship ends and he needs somewhere to live.  Hunky builder Harry couldn't be more different to romcom loving café owner Sally but there's definitely a spark there and it's only going to get hotter.

I loved both Harry and Sally's backstories and it's Sally who sees a money-making opportunity in recreating famous scenes from her favourite films and getting sponsorship on TikTok.  Harry is surprisingly amenable, possibly something to do with Sally's alluring big blue eyes and I loved seeing which scene they would come up with next.

It was great fun to relive some iconic movies through Sally and Harry's hilarious re-enactments.  To name but a few, there's scenes from Dirty Dancing, Never Been Kissed, An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, When Harry Met Sally, and of course the abomination that is Love Actually.

Entertaining, funny and completely heartwarming, Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is classic Kathryn Freeman and it's sure to put a smile on the face of everyone who reads it.

BLOG TOUR: Yellow is for Sunflowers - Kathryn Freeman

Dean Baxter was everything a sensible thirty-two-year-old teacher should avoid. Five years younger, cocky, with a playboy reputation. Oh and guardian to Tom, one of her most promising students. But Lia was a rebel at heart.

Lia Stapleton was everything that was out of reach for an uneducated garage mechanic who’d made too many mistakes. Cambridge-educated, gorgeous and from a well-heeled background, she was his brother’s teacher. But Dean couldn’t resist her.

As Dean and Lia’s tentative relationship begins, can it survive Tom’s disapproval, her parents’ interference. And the dangerous return of his past.

What did I think?

Kathryn Freeman is one of my favourite authors; her books never fail to leave me with a smile on my face and Yellow is for Sunflowers is no exception.  Just like a sunflower, this book is all bright and sunny on the outside but it has a darkness at its core with a surprising page-turning thriller element added to the heart-stopping romance story.

I love the main character of Lia; she is a teacher who really cares about her students, encouraging and guiding them to get the best out of them.  Lia clearly loves her job but she disappointed her family when she didn't follow in their footsteps and practise law.  Just as well Lia has a twin sister who did exactly what was expected of her so her parents could feel proud.  I loved the relationship between Lia and Grace with all the resentment and envy that has built up over the years, it virtually fizzes off the page.

From fizzle to sizzle - I almost burnt my fingers on my kindle when mechanic Dean Baxter entered the scene.  Dean is Lia's love interest but he's younger than her, has the reputation of a gigolo, has a dark and dangerous past that is coming back to haunt him and he's the guardian of one her students.  All good reasons not to date him, but Lia is drawn to Dean like a moth to a flame - let's just hope she doesn't get burnt.

I absolutely raced through this fabulous book; I couldn't wait to see how Lia and Dean's relationship would unfold and whether it would survive both Lia's family's disapproval and Dean's past mistake.  I loved the dark and dangerous storyline - it added a whole new dimension to an already riveting story.

Yellow is for Sunflowers is thrilling, exciting, page-turning and simply fabulous.  I loved it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

BLOG TOUR: The Italian Job - Kathryn Freeman

I'm a huge Kathryn Freeman fan so I'm delighted to be one of the bloggers opening the Rachels' Random Resources blog tour for The Italian Job.  After you've found out more about the book and read my review below, keep on scrolling for a fab giveaway to win a paperback copy of The Italian Job.

Dream job. Dream house. Fake fiancé.

A year in a gorgeous Italian castle…

When Anna Roberts’ life implodes, an online search leads her to an ad for the ultimate dream job – management of a gorgeous castle on the shores of Lake Como, accommodation included. The only catch? Anna can’t do it alone…

…With the last man on earth she’d choose!

The castle owners will only accept a couple as caretakers, which means Anna needs a man on her arm at the interview. Enter her neighbour, Jake Tucker. Though Anna and Jake have never seen eye-to-eye, Jake’s had a rough few years and an escape to Italy sounds ideal. Yet, when they get the job and jet off, Anna and Jake face an unexpected challenge. Pretending to be a couple is difficult … but pretending the tension simmering between them doesn’t exist is quickly proving impossible!

What did I think?

It always makes me happy when a new Kathryn Freeman book drops on my kindle and I read most of The Italian Job with a huge smile on my face.  It's a little more raunchy than usual, as the sexual tension between the two characters sizzles throughout, but there's no graphic sex scenes.

I just loved the characters of Anna and Jake - they're not your typical girl next door and boy next door as they have always been at loggerheads.  Jake is a bad boy and Anna is a saint, or at least that's how they've always seen each other.  Jake happens to be in the right place at the right time when Anna finds the perfect job to escape her life (and her ex) and the pair find themselves running a castle in Italy.

Jake would have been the last person I would have asked to help out if I was Anna but she's hardly a big fan of men at the moment so I can see why she'd pick Jake as he can't disappoint her when she doesn't expect anything from him.  He just needs to pretend to be her boyfriend, which isn't as easy as it sounds when they can't stand each other!  Of course, there's no surprises where their storyline goes but I enjoyed it as there are a colourful cast of characters to meet along the way.

Former pharmacist Kathryn should prescribe her novels as a drug-free pick me up; they never fail to put a smile on my face and The Italian Job is no exception.  I enjoyed every minute of my virtual trip to Italy - thank you, Kathryn!

BLOG TOUR: The Beach Reads Book Club - Kathryn Freeman

Welcome to the Beach Reads Book Club. Where love is just a page away…

When Lottie Watt is unceremoniously booted out of her uptight book club for not following the rules, she decides to throw the rulebook out the window and start her own club – one where conversation, gin and cake take precedent over actually having read the book!

The Beach Reads Book Club soon finds a home for its meetings at Books by the Bay, a charming bookshop and café owned by gorgeous, brooding Matthew Steele, and as the book club picks heat up, so too does the attraction between Matt and Lottie.

If there’s anything Lottie has learned from the romances she’s been reading, it’s that the greatest loves are the ones hardest earned.

A love letter to chicklit, romance, romcoms, whatever you want to call them!

What did I think?

Well this book turned out to be a breath of fresh air and as it's about a book club set in a book shop it's the perfect read for book lovers.  I loved it and read pretty much the whole book with a smile on my face so I must say a huge thank you to Kathryn Freeman.

Lottie's experience of the book club in her local library is precisely what puts me off book clubs: reading a book that somebody else has chosen and then having to discuss it.  I love books but speaking about them in front of people is my idea of hell.  Lottie isn't the only book club member to find that they're not having as much fun as they'd hoped so when Lottie decides to set up her own book club she already has a couple of founding members.

A book shop café is the perfect location for Lottie's book club and owner Matthew Steele provides the sexual tension as a brooding Mr Darcy style love interest.  Lottie is an electrician (and her surname is Watt which is rather amusing) so there's more than a few sparks as she is drawn to Matt but both of them have been hurt in the past so they're each reluctant to make the first move.

If all book clubs were like this one, I wouldn't mind joining!  Although I'd be the size of house with so much gin and cake!  I loved every single character as each one is brought to life through Kathryn Freeman's wonderful writing.  I have to say that my favourite character was Lottie's dog Chewie and it just shows the depth of character portrayed that he is so multidimensional without having the ability to speak.

You're always guaranteed a smile with a Kathryn Freeman book and The Beach Reads Book Club is no exception.  It's perfect escapism and I picked up one or two book recommendations along the way so it's a book lover's dream.  So cut a slice of cake, pour yourself a (large) gin and tonic and pick up a copy of The Beach Reads Book Club - you won't be disappointed.

BLOG TOUR: Mr Right Across the Street - Kathryn Freeman

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

What did I think?

I was in the mood for a bit of feel-good fiction and as Kathryn Freeman is always guaranteed to put a smile on my face I picked up her new book, Mr Right Across the Street.  What an absolute delight to read!  I devoured this gorgeous novel over a weekend, laughing, growling (at Freya) and even crying along the way.

Mia must be the most honest and true to herself character I have ever come across; she is a self-confessed geek and what you see is what you get.  I absolutely loved her!  She may be running away from a failed relationship but she is so brave to move 200 miles away from her home in Somerset to Manchester, where she doesn't know a single person.

Rather like the Diet Coke break advert, Mia is treated to a free hunky man show every day at 10am when the guy across the street works out in his spare room.  Mia gets a much closer look than she expected when she goes out one evening and finds the same guy behind the bar of her local.  Luke is quite the charmer with his patrons but Mia is very guarded and takes his flirting with a pinch of salt until he starts sticking sheets of paper up in his window with messages for her.  How cute!

With a handful of insecurities and a bucket-load of misunderstandings, I watched Mia and Luke's relationship transform from friendship to love.  As I was reading I felt like I was sitting in The Bar Beneath sipping cocktails and making friends with the regulars.  They are such a lovely, friendly crowd even though a good proportion of them have some kind of history with Luke.  It made me think how a lot of women these days tend to look the same with their tight black dresses, blonde curls and pink pouts so no wonder Mia stood out from the crowd with her geeky t-shirt, Converse and green stripes in her hair.  As least Luke can get a good idea of what she looks like on a morning and she won't leave orange streaks of foundation on his pillow.

Mr Right Across the Street is fabulous feel-good fiction from the Queen of Smiles, Kathryn Freeman.  I can't help but read her books with a smile on my face and joy in my heart.  Humourous, heart-warming and just plain cute, Mr Right Across the Street is perfect escapism and just what we all need right now.  A virtual hug in a book; thank you Kathryn!

BLOG TOUR: A Little Christmas Hope - Kathryn Freeman

I am delighted to be taking part in the Rachel's Random Resources blog tour for A Little Christmas Hope by Kathryn Freeman.  I love Kathryn Freeman's books so I wouldn't miss this for the world.  I am releasing my review for my stop on the tour and you can scroll down to find out more about the book.

Newly promoted head teacher Anna Dalton needs a Christmas miracle – and fast! After years of sitting through excruciatingly dull Christmas productions, complete with crying children and sleeping parents, she’s determined Riddlescomb Primary School will put on a Nativity to remember.

Enter bad boy actor Dan Ramsey, recently axed from the lead role in a TV drama and in desperate need of cleaning up his image or he’ll never work again.

Dan can flash those heart-stopping dimples all he likes, Anna tells herself she isn’t going to fall for them. She knows why he’s decided to volunteer at the school, and it’s for the good of his career…not his soul.

But as Anna and Dan are forced to work together for the sake of a truly magical Christmas for the children, sparks fly and they can’t help but wonder what will happen once the festive season is over…

What did I think?

What can I say about Kathryn Freeman that I haven't said before?  Her books are like your favourite pair of slippers: so warm, cozy and you never want to part with them.  A Little Christmas Hope is no different, it may be a winter story but it surrounds you in a warm glow and leaves you with a smile on your face.  Job done, Kathryn!

Dan needs to spruce up his image pretty sharpish if he wants another acting job.  After being killed off on a TV soap he went a bit wild and the press had a field day, so he decides to go back to his roots for some positive PR and see if he can help in his old primary school.  Headteacher Anna has just the job for Dan so she enlists him to help with the school nativity play, much to the chagrin of Sid who is usually solely in charge of the school play.  Can Dan turn on the charm and save his career?

Kathryn Freeman creates such wonderful characters that you really get to know them throughout the story and you can't help but care for them.  I loved every single character in A Little Christmas Hope and as this is part of the Christmas Wishes series, I am hoping we'll catch a brief glimpse of Anna and Dan in next year's Christmas story.

A Little Christmas Hope is a beautiful story of second chances as romance blossoms and bridges are built.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't get much of a festive vibe, although maybe that was just me being a bit of a grinch.  It's so beautifully written that I was completely swept along with Anna and Dan's story and loved every second of it.

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for sending me a digital copy of the book to read and review for the blog tour; this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

BLOG TOUR: Strictly Come Dating - Kathryn Freeman

I love Kathryn Freeman books so I am thrilled to be taking part in the Rachel's Random Resources Blog Tour for Strictly Come Dating.  Scroll down to find out about Kathryn's new book and to read my review.

Saturday nights are strictly for dancing…

As the glitter ball shimmers and sequins flash, forty-year-old Maggie remembers the pull of the dancefloor.  But now, as a newly divorced mum of two, Maggie’s certain her dancing days are over.  Or are they…?

Encouraged by her friends, Maggie dusts off her silver stilettoes and enrols for dancing classes, all she needs now is the perfect partner.

Enter Seb.  Young, carefree and hot as hell, Seb is definitely a perfect 10!  Even though everything about him is outrageously inappropriate! But as Seb sweeps her across the dancefloor every week, Maggie begins to see a new side to him; kind, caring, funny, strong.

And Maggie realises that he’s the only one she’d like to foxtrot with…perhaps even forever

What did I think?

I'm a huge fan of Kathryn Freeman but I have to admit that, having never watched Strictly Come Dancing and being unable to tell a foxtrot from a tango, I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy her new novel, Strictly Come Dating.  I needn't have worried as I enjoyed it immensely, so take note -  this one isn't just for Strictly fans.

Maggie is a fabulous character and I loved how she and her friends gathered around the TV each Saturday to watch Strictly together.  They take turns hosting and they're so serious about Strictly that phones and talking aren't allowed during the show.  They all gladly accept the rules until Maggie's friends' brother, Seb, arrives back from Australia and can't hold his tongue.  He finds the show amusing but spends most of the evening watching Maggie, which doesn't go unnoticed by his sisters although Maggie is completely unaware.

Seb is completely smitten with Maggie and he doesn't care that there is a 10 year age gap but Maggie is completely hung up over her age.  I wanted to give her a good talking to as she keeps going on about her age (she's mid-thirties not an OAP) but I could understand her being a bit down on herself after her husband left her and her two fabulous girls.  Seb does his best to bring back the sparkle into Maggie's life and there's nothing more sparkly than Strictly!

I loved the strong family vibe in Strictly Come Dating, both Maggie's relationship with her daughters and Seb's relationship with his sisters.  Maggie's daughters, Penny and Tabby, totally stole the show for me - they are gorgeous girls and a credit to Maggie, with no thanks to her ex-husband, Paul.  When Paul comes back on the scene he's like a Dementor from Harry Potter, sucking out all the fun from their life.  I'm surprised Maggie even let him into the house after he had been absent for two years but then she was thinking of what was best for her girls.

Strictly Come Dating is a fabulously sparkly romance that isn't just for Strictly fans, although Strictly fans will LOVE it.  It's a wonderfully heartwarming read that kept me entertained and left me with a big smile on my face.  I loved it.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

I’ve two sons and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), so any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.
